Addiction Therapy
in Hove.
Psychotherapy for addictive and compulsive behaviours, based in Hove.
How addiction begins.
Most addictive behaviours begin as a solution, a way of coping with pain, boredom, anxiety, or feelings we don't know how to hold. Alcohol, substances, food, gambling, work, anything can become the thing we reach for when we need relief. For a while, it works. But over time, what started as a coping mechanism can take on a life of its own.
If you're reading this, some part of you already knows something needs to change.
Looking at what it's managing.
Addiction is rarely just about the substance or behaviour itself. It is usually about what that thing is doing, what it numbs, what it provides, what gap it fills. Therapy for addiction works by trying to understand and address that underlying pain, rather than simply focusing on the behaviour.
This is complex work. Addictive behaviours can get in the way of the very insight needed to overcome them. But if there is a genuine willingness to look beneath the surface, therapy can be genuinely transformative.
Understanding, not evaluation.
I work without judgement. Whatever the behaviour, whatever the history, my aim is to understand, not to assess or evaluate. If the addiction is severe, other forms of support may be needed alongside therapy, and I will always be open about that.
